I believe most of us have read about the news on muslim Vietnamese bride in Berita Harian lately. To most of us, this is nothing new. Interacial marriages are common. But what does this lately issue of matrimony has awaken? Is it a wakeup call for local girls, especially malay muslim women to `buck up' or `ship out'? Do you think such actions by lonely, shy and conservative individual is justifiable?
I read through the news with mixed feelings. One of joy for the person while the other was worrying. Worrying in a way that such action/news will only jeopardise the malay women status. As quoted by the individual, marrying local girls are expensive. It can come up to almost $20,000. After all the trouble of spending $13k or $15k, if I can recall correctly, the individual has made travels from village to village in Vietnam. The agency uses its experience to bring its customer to scan the girl of his dreams. After much spending and much travelling, the difference in terms of monetary expenses will be around 5 to 6 thousand dollars. To the individual, its worth the spending as he saves more in terms of date spending, dowry etc etc.
Has this become a trend? Should our society put a stop to this and save the local women stature? I believe however, that, in terms of dowry, there are families who do not put an expensive price tag onto their daughters. But on the other hand, however, in some families that look up upon monetary as a form of a guarantee for happiness and security, dowry is an important factor. Adding to this, the amount will also rise if such individuals have high post in the working world or is highly educated. I was once told by my fren that his mother in law, at the point of marriage, said that she is not selling her daughter to him. Whats more important is not the dowry but the responsibility of the husband to be in taking care of the wife till death do them apart.
Whichever it is, parents now should realise the negative effect of asking too much dowry. Still it is their choice but is it a must? Think upon it. Ponder if you have to. Lavish marriages when ended in divorce is such a waste. Likewise, divorce cases can happen to anyone but would it be important that the lavishness expenses can be saved for something more important like.....child matters?
How would you people think about this? What is your reaction? If you are single, you think this is good news? A lesson for the local women's parents? Or r u thinking the same like me? Cheerz.....:)

It seems that all the money that I invested in buying a bicycle has gone to waste. Let me tell you folks the breakdown of my expenses first in having a bike for travelling to and fro MRT before I start upon telling you all about the lost of my bike. The bike itself costs $40. Breakdown....
Others;
Bell - $5
Bike Stand - $8
Child seat and foot rest - $10
Front bike Carrier (basket) - $8
____
Total $31
____
In total, overall expenditure is about $71 for a second hand refurbished bike. You see bloggers, travelling by bike has indeed cut my time spent on travelling to and fro mrt by a few minutes. It helps that I can even use it to go elsewhere should I need to run errands. However, tragedy (to me) struck. It was a day which I will regret for being forgetfull. I had left my bike overnight at the bicycle stand on that unfateful day. I had forgotten fully after I went back home by taxi to bring back a personal computer that I have bought from office, perhaps also due to my tiredness and sleepiness.
The next morning when I was up and ready to go to work, my heart started pounding fast as I began to realise that I had not taken my bike back from MRT. I sighed, regret and blame myself for being forgetfull. I told myself that my bike is a gonner. Any bike, as long as its not a kuceng kurap (old and rusty) one, will definitely be stolen overnight. True enough, when I reached the MRT, my bike was gone completely and that includes even the iron lock. It has been taken away during the quiet hours of after midnight when all lights of the MRT are off and the place becomes deserted.
I had told this lost incident to my neighbourhood friend who lives near Aljunied and he grinned. He had once lost his bike too near the mrt. He even told me that his bike is of good standard and was locked on both wheels to a metal post. But still, it was stolen. He had come to an accusation that the `foreigners' are into this work. Its good money when a bike sold in the black market can cost around $40. He related an incident where a Bangladeshi was whacked by a few people when caught trying to steal a bike. The Bangladeshi was later handed over to the police. I do not know whether this is true or not but the story probably has some truths in it especially when it comes to money gotten from the selling of stolen bikes. To us is a small amount but to them it's big.
What bothers me now is the fact that there are no security measures taken by the authorities with regards to bicycles parked near MRT. The notice board says it all. Park at own risk. Management not responsible for lost of bicycles in the area. I mean, we are paying extra money for rising transportation cost and even encouraged to use the MRT instead of driving own cars. The thing is, we need the bicycle park to be safe, thats all. My suggestion is to install 1 surveillance camera facing the park. The costs is not that much when all the profits got from commuters are in millions. Its like when you are abroad living in a hotel. Even before you step in, you will be greeted by the bellboy and the door is opened up for you. Your luggages will be taken care of when you have gotten your room. Can this be applied to commuters who use bikes to eventually ride the MRT? I dont see why it cant be done. If charges have to be applied, I wont mind paying knowing well that my property will be taken good care of.
Anybody listening???.......:)

Recent incidents in the army involving deaths of servicemen, made me recalled back the times when I was enrolled into the army. I was physically and mentally prepared. Before joining this compulsory duty for the country, I had pushed myself to the limit when it comes to physical abilities. Ran 2.4kms in under 11 minutes, did maximum 15 chinups and 40 Sit ups and climbing up monkey bars which acts as a wall (got this idea when watched NS movies of Singapore in the 80s). This has been my routine week in week out after school, 3 times weekly. I psyched myself up in preparation for the enrolment.
But what I thought was a breeze through for me in the army after planning my routine physical training, turns out to be a disastrous one. The first thing we had to do after debussing the 3 tonner, is to drop on both hands and feet to do 20 pushups for being slow in going down. The corporal gave us a sinister smile and welcome us to the training camp which was at Nee Soon. The following months then was history. To sum up the feeling, it was like pressure, loneliness, suffering and pain. The food was like breakfast fried mee and it tasted like you're eating a bunch of rubber bands...:) Same goes for lunch, dinner and nightsnacks....
Nowadays, life in the army seems to be very relaxed. I got to know that when they were enrolled, they were ferried by air con bus. Even for those taken to Tekong Island were taken by ferrys which were air conned. Imagine last time when the old guards had to go up a bumboat with no shelter and under the sweltering heat of the sun.....:) Training no longer has push ups and torturing of runs from one tree to another. All that has changed. Even the accomodation is impressive. No longer was there the thin spongy mattress. King Koil rules the bunks. When in training, safety has always been emphasised. At the end of our 3 months basic military training, I'm grateful to God for there are nil accidents.
News of servicemen died while running and falling to death while rappelling from a heli is quite common to my ears. The intense regimental training requires medically fit and strong bodies to go through. The gruelling obstacle course need men of muscles and the stamina of a horse. Cardiac arrests are inevitable and so is heatstroke. Precautions are exercised before training. Drink a lot of 1 or 2 cups of water before sleep. To stop when the heat is too much to handle. But some servicemen just want to prove that they can do it when medically they could not. Thats when it happened. Heatstroke can pull someone's temperature above 40 degrees instantaneously. If not put down immediately, death will follow. You have to know your body limits. So what if you will be punished by doing guard duty, so what if you will be doing extra tasks? The most important thing is your life. Training is different from the war itself where you are either with your platoon mates or your own. Its about survival. There is such thing as medical centre. They are there for you to report to when you feel that you cant take the heat. My advice to young budding servicemen, know your medical status and be aware of how much your body can endure. If you are determine to prove your fitness, do it gradually. Your body is like an engine..it needs to be warmed up slowly...:)
On the other side of the mirror, one cannot deny the over emphasised of training on the part of the trainers. They tend to push the trainees to their limit and maybe even further just to make them a superfit infantry men. But limits are limits. You simple cant make them your guinea pigs if they are not ready for the test. As in the case of the commando who died, the trainers never bothered about the severity of their `real scenario' training until the commando died. The poor boy was a victim of regimental harshness of some irresponsible seniors. As a result, it is only justifiable that the accused be punished appropriately. I salute the army's swift investigation act. We simply cannot blame the Organisation. It is the mishandling of some irresponsible people that ruined the great image of the Organisation. And this happens everywhere. You just have to keep your eye open all the time....:)
In conclusion, servicemen of today has got nothing to worry about when enrolling. The welfare of the servicemen has been improved tremendously. And I am happy to see this. Now, it boils down to only 1 thing. And that is loyalty to your country. Many hate the 2 years regimental training but hey, look at us last time who has to serve 2 and a half years. Be gratefull.....:)
Cheerz fellow countrymen....

Seibarat nada penyesalan....
Kakak kau peh laki - atau sebenarnya abang ipar kamu. Sebutannya yang agak pekat membuatkan ianya kedengaran seperti memaki hamun seseorang....:)
Lembab/Slack ah dekni - memberitahu yang anda agak perlahan dari segi pemikiran/pergerakkan/tindakkan...:)
Jalan Suah - membawa pengertian `Pergi kau dari sini!"...hehehehe
Relax Suah - bermakna seperti kamu jangan masok campor....
Dol - Saudara..hehehe
Bodoh nak mampos/Tak pandai2 ah dekni - perkataan cukup pedas.
Ibarat kekata Arwah Tan Sri P.Ramlee....`BAHASA MENUNJUKKAN BANGSA!'...:)

I guess some of us would have probably heard of the term Autism. What does it mean in theory? Ok here it goes...By definition, Autism means disorders characterized by varying degrees of impairment in communication skills, social interactions, and restricted, repetitive and stereotyped patterns of behavior.
Perhaps a better understanding would be in the form of a movie titled `Rain Man'. Not many knew the severity of autistic victims and its characterisation or classification. If you are interested to know, here is the website to visit... http://www.nimh.nih.gov/publicat/autism.cfm
The reason why I brought this issue up is because of appreciating ourselves. There are people or families who are completely healthy but are never satisfied with what they have. They become bolder, they think highly of themselves and so on so forth. Perhaps, I have seen much sufferings when I was a child. I have seen my distant relative who is an autistic individual sitting on a wheelchair unable to do anything but moaning, whining and crying out for attention to anyone who is around him. He is like a baby. His eyes are not functioning, his limbs are like jelly like and his body is ever so thin. For a newbie, this is a heartwrenching sight but my aunties and uncles are so used to taking care of him that there is not even a teardrop on their faces.
Every year, I will come to visit him and that is also during the Hari Raya. But now, it seems that God loved him more. He had passed away peacefully 3 years ago and is probably now in God's care..During his life, he was taken care of well by my 2nd grandma. But as soon as my 2nd grandma passed away, he followed suite, which to me the sadness is undescribable. Anyway, life goes on. And then, only a few months back, I saw in the MRT an incident which brings dejavu to the word autism. I was exiting the MRT and about to go down the escalator when my eye caught a view of a child pulling the mother's hair non-stop and making loud cries. It seems the mom knows only too well on how to handle her handicapped child. She simply let her hair be pulled by the child to accomodate his `needs'. For some individual, they might not understand it, OR they may even make a joke out of it. This is humanity.
I'm grateful to god for I have a perfectly happy family. All sickness and wealth comes from god. No matter what happens in the future, I am more resigned to going through it with a positive mind rather than be remorsefull...Insya-Allah....

Yesterday, my friend showed me his newly bought item, which to me is something exciting. What he showed me was a Playstation portable (PSP). I always knew he will grab it when it is released in the market. He has been talking bout it all the time. But to my surprise he bought the PSP in Japan when he was there a few weeks ago on a 2nd honeymoon with his wife. He said that the eagerness has caught over him and he decided to buy the PSP there with no guarantee!
Willingly he showed me on how the PSP works. Apart from downloading his pictures from his digital camera, PSP can also download movies depending on how big is your slot space. And so he showed me trailers of Star Wars, Revenge of the Sith. Impressive indeed! Colourful, digitally clear and the sound is just right. Value for money? Wait there's more. The PSP can also play 3D games bought for a price of approximately $75 (price will probably go down soon). Just as good as a playstation set, the graphics are unbelievable. The slottable card can go up to as high as 1GB. Technology has been sprinting fast!
My friend are a few examples of Singaporeans who can keep up with technology. Sure, reading bout the improvements in technology is child's play. But to keep up with the technical ability requires time and money spent! My friend bought that PSP for a price of $450. Because he is impressed with the product, he bought a 512MB of card space for his own usage. And I already know that he has 1GB of thumbdrive in his possession. Even before this, he has grabbed himself an Apple Ipod even tho he already has Microsoft Zen touch. To say that I'm jealous of his spending spree is rubbish as I'm not the sort to spend unnecesarily just to keep up with technology but the whole event is an eye opener for me as money does talk. And with money, you can enjoy all the benefits that technology can provide; entertainment, convenience and of course improvements in all fields.
Keep up with technology in whatever means you can. Even by reading about the advancement and improvements helps. We are in a knowledge based economy and by refusing to learn, we are only putting ourselves into situations that some people said is `Retroness'....:)
Cheerz everyone.....

Donations in the name of Charity!
This afternoon, while on the way to work, I bought myself today's The New Paper. After gotten into the Mrt, I started to flip the page when I come across this title Charity ticket is really a food promo' on page 2.
I tell myself that this sounds like a fraud. And so I started to read from the beginning to the end. A Singaporean by the name of Henry Lee willingly donated $3 when a female teenager stopped him to buy the donation ticket he showed to him. She said to Henry that it is for the old people hospital building funds. It is only after he got the ticket and got a closer look at it, that he felt there is something wrong. There are food cut-outs on the voucher relating to offers from a reputable restaurant. There is a small portion that says $1 will be donated to the Hand In Hand Association while the rest will be for the benefit of the Restaurant.
Unhappy with the situation, Mr Henry request a refund from the teenage girl but was refused as it is non-refundable. She ran away when Mr Henry threatened to report the matter to the authorities. This incident was further investigated by the New paper journalist who later finds out that out of the $3, $1 is for the Seller, another is the running of operational costs and last is for the donation to the Hand in Hand Association, which existed for 3 years but never registered themselves under Commissioner of Charities. Under Singapore law, any association involving in charity work has to be registered within 3 months with the Commissioner of Charities or they will be deemed as offenders.
I have been telling myself that what can we learn from this incident? Firstly, as unemployment is high in our country, we can expect people do the unexpected. Im not saying that unemployed people are criminals but the pressure of survival has to some extent lead to unnecessary vice to some desperate and greedy people. 2ndly, we being the generous lot, has to be smart enough to think that donation are for the needy. You have to see it with your own eyes or perhaps donate your money to the association that is reputable like National kidney Foundation, Cancer association for research etc etc. I believe in analysing the situation first before I fork out my extra money to donate.
It has happen everywhere. To cite some examples, my trainer once relate a story of how she was asked in a cark park lot before moving off, a note of $2 from an abled man. His side of the story was that he had lost his wallet and has no money to go home. As my trainer was catching up with time, she quickly gave him the money and he quickly fled the scene. When my trainer finally got out of the small car park area and was about to move off when she caught a view at a nearby coffeeshop, the man that she gave the $2. He was happily drinking his can of beer and smoking. Damn! U think its worth sympathising with this fella?
Some people believe, you donate and that is good in the eyes of God. Whatever happens after that is between the recipient and God. However, my trainer and I disagree. Looking at it from another angle, we are not helping the recipient to realise his plight at all! We are not telling him harshly that he has two feet to walk and a brain to think. He can still work and feed himself. Why resort to such tactics?
Why do some people/organisation resort to such things in the name of Charity? Is it survival skill? Is it business smart thinking thing? Is it a norm as in people will not question when it comes to charity? What do you, frens, think? I for one, hate such actions. That is why, I am such a particular person when it comes to donation. If people say Im stingy, so be it. At least I wont be tricked....:)

Pada satu masa ada 2 ekor anjing.anjing A dan anjing B.Mereka berdua
tinggal di sebuah pulau bernama pulau Niza.(cheeee... sedapnyer nama

berhasrat untuk pindah ketempat lain.lalu si anjing A nie pun mencadangkan
perkara itu kepada rakannya.Setelah persetujuan dicapai anjing A tadi

Yet another day passes by.
Woke up as early as 5.30 and getting ready to go to work, I kissed the forehead of my beloved wife and children be4 heading off. Got onto my $40 worthwhile moutain bike, and ride towards Paya Lebar Mrt. Along the way, I met Mr Michael, a very nice Indonesian Chinese neighbour in his family car waving at me. Did likewise and sped off as I was slightly late.
Phew, once reached the bicycle bay, I was sweating as usual. Ran up the platform and waited for the MRT. The view here is a common every morning view of Singaporeans looking dull and tired, leaning against the paraphet, some browsing the newspaper and others are like practically staring down towards the roads where cars are beginning to jam. And its only 6 plus in the morning. Then off goes the announcement, `Ladies and Gentleman, please stand behind the yellow line'!. A simple announcemnet but yet there are people dying here, who practically fall off the platform and into the oncoming train. These are past incidents. One thing that only bugs me is the inefficiency of the technical stuffs the station has. Though the staffs were excellent in service, its the cameras and timing of the train that is less effective. Cameras are not suitably placed. Therefore, there are incidents of people jumping onto the train rails unnoticed! They have got to do something bout this. Heck, ever heard of Suggestion Schemes?....Next, in the very very early morning of the day, the timing of the train is very very slow. You have to wait for 8 minutes if you happen to miss a train. Strangely, peak period is during office hours, but then again, 6 plus timing is also a peak period coz there are so many people! around! You can dream of getting a seat in the train as ALL is occupied with construction site foreign workers, school children, office workers! and last but not least workers staying far and had to ride the train as early as before 7! Now, isnt the word/timing of office hours an IRONY? I mean, Im not trying to be an Idiotic person here, but hey, I pay for the ride! And the cost is not like going down through the years!
Anyway, there I went in, with earphones plug into my ears and listening to RIA 89.7 FM. As we arrive in each station, I can see the excitedness of those people standing around me anxiously waiting to grab any seat that is vacant! This is the ugly side of Singaporeans. A seat behind you, when empty, gives you all the right to seat but wait!..suddenly out of the clear lights of the train, came rushing towards you, an individual, not that old and neither has the face that needs to have the seat urgently, leaps across a few cross legged ladies and puts a bag into the seat, trying to tell me that I got here first. I was like, huh? what is this? I dont mind giving up that place, but common man...you know I deserve the seat better than you do! Its out of your selfishness you did such a childlike action. O well, I just turn my body angel back to where I was, and that was leaning against the pole and enjoying the music in my ears. I said to myself, there will be vacant seats once we reach City Hall......
Finally I got my seat and sat comfortably to enjoy the ride. Doze off for a few minutes, I finally woken up when reaching Buona Vista Station. Hurriedly, I went out and join the ant workers down the escalators and speed walking towards my office. Nobody seems to bother what goes on around them. Face forward, with laptop bags on their shoulders, they walked speedily and only catching a glimpse of buses coming. If it happens to be their bus nos, they will dash! Oh yes, my office is situated at the hub of Science called Biopolis! Sometimes I wonder why are we situated here and not somewhere else where we are not interfering with the expansion of Biopolis? They are expanding and we are not!...There goes the wonderful planning!
Anyway, complaints aside, I got into my office and got to a good start by doing my routine job. This is, ladies and gentleman, a typical morning rush of a common Singaporean. I have complaints individually but I still am appreciative of the fact that I still have a job to hold on to. After watching DVD movies of City of God and Open Waters, I am more resigned to appreciating the best that I have now and improve on it. There could only be YOURSELF to accomplish this. This is my story.

I am still like dragging my feet to work after I have completed my course the last 3 days at Peck Seah Street. However, working in the 2nd shift of 11.30 to 8.30 is quite relax and therefore I have the time now to journalise my day. As everyday when I wake up, I am thoroughly grateful to Almighty God that he has granted me to live another day. HE has been the bedrock of my life. For every good and bad incidents that happen, I always look up to him and says.....I will take up your challenge positively. Going past 30s and especially nearing mid 30s, has seen myself losing the stamina and endurance that I used to have when I was in my prime years. No longer was there the desire to reach the pinnacle of every challenge. I am resign to losing that gigantic thrust. Nonetheless, I still have the determination to take good care of myself healthily. Eating much less rice and regularly exercising in the gym of my institution has helped at least to a certain extent the alertness of my body and soul.
It has been a wonderful day today. After seeing the last 15 minutes of the English Premiership League clash between Chelsea and Arsenal early this morning, I thought to myself that I am quite fortunate not to watch the game since the beginning. It turned out to be a stalemate result for both teams. Chelsea 0 Arsenal 0. Salute to Chelsea for their tenacity in climbing up the ladder of success. People are now grappling with the fact that they are the Champions of 2004/2005 EPL series. Ok, so much for Chelsea. I am actually a true Liverpool fan. It is just great to see Liverpool in the semi finals of the Champions League. Much have been said of their dismal performance. But for Liverpool, when the stakes are high, you will be thrilled by their style of play. Under Rafa Benitez, Liverpool has transformed into an attack minded squad. I am glad they are changing to positive football finally! Seeing this, you can tell that I am a soccer fanatic individual. When I was in my prime years, I like extreme competition. This took me far as I was selected for DBS bank soccer team during the early 90s to participate in the Temasek Games held once a year. We won the 3rd placing! A good achievement judging from the fact that other teams are very very strong.
Ok so much of soccer. Apart having to wake up in the morning and breathe fresh air again is a blessing to me, I am also glad to have with me an excellent partner, a confidante, a councillor and last but not least a best fren; that is my beautiful loving wife. A blessing indeed knowing the tough times I had when I was single. Finding a girlfriend is as easy as ABC but looking for a long term relationship till death do you both apart, is no joke. I am till now gratefull to God for this priviledge. And with this priviledge, I am also thankful that HE gave me 2 beautiful offsprings. What more of different sexes. Their arrival only completes the bliss in my marriage life. Hey, marriage life isnt that complex as it was told last time to me when I was single. Being competitive in nature of myself, I am glad that I took the risk that is worthwhile. Of course there are ups and downs to these blissfull events but I'm only learning to be better by the years. THANK YOU ALLAH!
